The Barbara's recipe

The kugelhopf - The famous brioche, symbol of Alsatian gastronomy

Prep time: 25 minutes

Cook time: 55 minutes

Ingredients (6 people):

- 300 g flour 
- a good pinch salt
- 50 g sugar 
- 1 sachet vanilla sugar
- 1 sachet yeast
- 1 egg
- 5 egg yolks 
- 1 tablespoon rum
- 150 g butter
- 25 cl milk
- 250 g raisins
- a few whole almonds
- powdered sugar


In a bowl, put flour, salt, sugar and vanilla sugar.
Crumble yeast in tepid milk and mix.
Add the egg, egg yolks, rum and softened butter.
Beat until the dough peels off. 
Cover with a towel.
Put the terrine in a cool place and let the dough rise for 1h30.
When the dough's volume has doubled, add the raisins.
Butter the pan generously and right up to the top. Place a whole almond in each groove of the mold, then pour the dough.
Let the dough rise for 50 minutes.
Put the kouglof in the oven and bake for 55 minutes (360° F).
Let it cool on a rack before unmolding.
Sift powdered sugar over kouglof. Cut into wedges and serve!

Hi Barbara, why did you choose to become a Be my nest Host?

Charlotte and Claire, the Be my nest founders, are two young women who are involved and dynamic, who perfectly know their Hosts as well as the travellers' needs and wishes inside out.

Also, I really enjoy being directly in contact with international people thanks to the website. It's practical, and it lets Guests and Hosts be free to "meet" before their arrival.

Usually, what do your Guests like?

Friendliness: our home is a place where people talk and share their experiences. We offer several rooms and usually host people from different nationalities.

We are used to cooking and doing activities together!
